The Ahmedabad-based franchise has finally unveiled their name ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) major auction in 2022. Gujarat Titans will be the team's name, which was confirmed on Wednesday (February 9). According to previous sources, the team was dubbed the Ahmedabad Titans. All rumours were put to rest after the introduction of a verified Twitter account called "Gujarat Titans."
The page's bio read, "Official account of Gujarat Titans, the newest squad of the Indian Premier League." For the uninitiated, the IPL will expand to ten teams in 2022, with the addition of two additional franchises: Lucknow and Ahmedabad. Lucknow has already given the name Lucknow Super Giants to their future squad. As a result, everyone was waiting for the identity of Ahmedabad's team to be revealed.
Unlike the Lucknow franchise, the Ahmedabad franchise has chosen the name of the state rather than the city. It will not be the first time that a team named Gujarat would compete in the IPL. Suresh Raina was the captain of the Gujarat Lions during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Meanwhile, in IPL 2022, the Titans will be headed by all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Rashid Khan, a leg-spinner, and Shubman Gill, a batter, are the two players chosen by the franchise ahead of the bidding event. Prior to the mega auction, the eight existing teams were able to select a maximum of four players for the unversed. From the list of non-retained players, the two new organisations selected three players each.
A fund of INR 90 crore was distributed to each team. Ahmedabad was left with a purse of INR 52 crore after keeping three capped players. Now they must assemble a powerful team to compete in the bidding event. The mega auction for the IPL 2022 season will be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. A total of 590 players — 370 Indians and 220 overseas – will be auctioned off, and all ten franchises will be busy planning ahead of time. In the meantime, the gala competition is set to begin in the last week of March this year.
