The T20 World Cup will go off on October 17 in Oman and the United Arab Emirates. In a similar vein, India's campaign will begin on October 24 with a match against Pakistan. There has been much discussion about whether India should keep star all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the lineup because he currently cannot perform with the ball. Pandya has a history of finishing games for India as well as producing a few useful overs.

However, since undergoing back surgery, he could not bowl. Even though Pandya has tried bowling, his back hasn't cooperated, therefore it's unclear what role he'll play for Team India in the T20 World Cup. According to people close to the situation, the Gujarat all-key rounder's task in the World T20 will be to end games for India. His fitness, on the other hand, will be constantly scrutinised to determine when he will be able to perform with the ball.

“He is not 100 per cent when it comes to bowling so it will be a finisher’s role for Hardik in this World Cup. We will keep assessing him as we progress, but at present, the team will look at him as a batsman who comes in and looks to play the finisher’s role just like MS Dhoni did over the years,” said a source as quoted by Dev discourse.

“With someone like Hardik, you know the level of dedication and effort is always 100 per cent. So, we will keep working on his bowling,” he added.

We should remember that the ICC has extended the deadlines for amending separate squads to October 15, and the BCCI has just added Shardul Thakur to the main 15-man squad and transferred Axar Patel to the loss of standby players. It remains to be seen whether BCCI would give Yuzvendra Chahal a chance in the high-profile event, given his absence was unexpected, and he showed his class during the UAE leg of the IPL 2021.
