The IPL super mega auction will happen in December. The addition of two more teams is making it obligatory for every player to go through an auction. That's when the debate over which franchisee will retain whom has begun. In this context, fans are speculating on the composition of the Chennai Super Kings team. They opine Dhoni, the team’s captain, is sure to be retained. However, Brad Hugh, former Australia player, made attention-grabbing comments that Dhoni himself has said that he would not leave ‘Chennai Super Kings’ - he was that attached to the team. 

 

Dhoni earlier described the franchise as the 'Maharaja'. The general belief is that in case Dhoni does not continue as a player, he would take over the coaching responsibilities. Hugh further commented that with the franchise owners that the Chennai Super Kings team’s association with Dhoni is very emotional. Dhoni has been playing for Chennai since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni is also recognized as the most honorable captain in the league. Apart from home town aficionados, Chennai fans adore Dhoni like crazy. Brad Hugh commented that Dhoni would not completely quit the team, but would remain with the Chennai team in some of these responsibilities.

 

The BCCI has made preliminary plans for the IPL 2022 season. The board made a key decision on two new franchises, a player retention policy, a huge auction, and a pay rise. Board sources said tenders for the new franchise would be called in August and the sale would be completed in September, with a mega auction likely to be scheduled in December. Tenders will also be called for live broadcast rights in January 2022. Broadcasting rights are likely to sell out this time around.
