The IPL 2021 season, which postponed due to the on-going epidemic, is all set to begin again. The BCCI has decided to hold the second-half of IPL in the UAE. BCCI also announced that remaining 31 matches will be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah from 19th September onwards. BCCI revealed: the IPL’s final will be played on October 15. Actually, BCCI had originally planned to hold the finals on October 10. With Dussehra and the weekend starting on 15th, BCCI changed the final date to enhance viewership. Unfortunately, this decision is causing new problems to BCCI.
The ICC T20 World Cup kicks off on October 18 this year. According to ICC rules, there should be no tournament for at least 7 to 10 days before ICC tournaments. To this end, ICC has agreements with cricket boards around the world. If the BCCI hosts the IPL final on October 15, the ICC T20 World Cup will begin in just three days.
It is widely rumored; the boards of the ICC and other cricketing nations may not agree. Most importantly, there are clear indications that boards that send their players for the IPL will oppose the BCCI’s final date of IPL.
Actually, India should be playing host to the T20 World Cup. However, the spread of the corona virus in India, has not yet fully subsided. Keeping this in view, BCCI has asked ICC for time to decide on playing the host for T20 World Cup until the end of this month.
