The rivalry between India and Pakistan is quite well-known. Playing cricket with any other country is taken as merely winning and losing, but when it comes to playing with Pakistan, it involves countless millions of people’s emotions. This perhaps is one among the reasons why Indian cricket fans eagerly look forward to a match between India and Pakistan.
However, the political upheavals between the two countries resulted in India not playing even a single bilateral series since 2012- 13 with Pakistan. The last played match was when Pakistan last visited India to play a limited-over series.
In between, India had played with Pakistan in the 2019 world, where India claimed a resounding victory. The match stood as a highlight for the world-cup. The craze was more because both countries had played against each other after a long time rather than the match having a nail-biting finish. The Indian fans were gaga over the victory.
While the Indian aficionados are eagerly looking forward to such encounters, Sourav Ganguly had added an impetus to this with an interesting piece of news. Speaking to the media, Sourav Ganguly said that “Asia Cup’ will be happening in Dubai. India and Pakistan would be competing against each other. He further shared that he would be talking to the ‘Asia Cricket Council’ with regards to this.
Actually, ‘Asia Cup’ was supposed to take place in Pakistan. But, after the unfortunate Pulwama incident, there’s been an unrest between India and Pakistan. Hence, the Indian Government has decided not to play cricket in Pakistan. In relation to this, everyone concluded that without India playing against Pakistan in the ‘Asia Cup’ there would be no fun in the tournament.
Sourav Ganguly, BCCI, President, shared that changes in the cricket team are being implemented; India and Pakistan would be facing each other in the upcoming Asia Cup. During their visit in 2012-13, Pakistan had played with India 2 One Day matches and two T20s. Pakistan had won the One Day matches with 2-1 and equaled the T20 matches with 1-1.
