After what appears to be an exceptionally long pause, the winners of the 66th National Film Awards 2019 have been announced in New Delhi on 9th of August. It was declared that more than 400 movies were submitted in the feature film classification and 256 movies were submitted under the non-feature class.

Hindi movies like Andhadhun, Uri: The Surgical Strike and Padmaavat won huge in the component feature film category. Actors ‘Ayushmann Khurana’ and ‘Vicky Kaushal’ have jointly been chosen for the Best Actor for their exceptional performances from ‘Andhadun’ and ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ respectively. ‘Keerthy Suresh’ has bagged the National Best Actress award for her outstanding performance in ‘Mahanati’.

The south films like Mahanati, KGF, Awe, Rangasthalam and Chi La Sow have fared well and bagged some prominent awards. ‘Best Costumer Award’ was awarded to the Keerthy Suresh starring ‘Mahanati’ whereas KGF bagged the ‘Best Action’ film award. Rangasthalam got an honor in Sound Design. Rahul Ravindran the director of ‘Chi La Sow’ got the National Award in Best Original Screenplay. ‘Awe’ has bagged the awards for ‘Best Special Effect’ and ‘Best Makeup’.
