In the third and final test match of the on-going test test series against South Africa at Ranchi, Rohit Sharma broke the world record for the most sixes in a test series.
As he smashed his way to his 6th test hundred against South Africa at Ranchi on Saturday, he broke the record that was held by West Indies batsman Shimron Hetmeyer who had 15 sixes in a test series against Bangladesh in 2018. Rohit broke the record by smashing a total of 17 sixes in the last 3 test matches.
The 32 year old Indian cricket team batsman got to his century by hitting a six and went past Shimron Hetmeyer. Rohit Sharma also became the second Indian batsman to hit 3 or more hundreds in a test series, the first being Sunil Gavaskar.
After a slow start by the opening batsman by losing 3 wickets for 39 runs, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma put together a partnership of 166 runs for the 4th wicket as India reached to 224 by the end of day’s play with Rahane being unbeaten on 83 and Rohit being unbeaten on 117.
Also in the process of today’s play Rohit brought up his 2000 test runs, playing the role of the steady ship the Indian cricket team needed today.
