On Saturday the 19th of October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited prominent celebrities of Bollywood for an event that marked 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi.
‘Change Within’ the event which was an open discussion on the role that artistes can play in spreading awareness and creatively spreading the messages of Mahatma Gandhi. The event which was at the PM’s residence also featured a special tribute video which was done by Rajkumar Hirani.
This event was attended by Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez, Kangana Ranaut, Ekta Kapoor and may other celebrities of Bollywood whose photos were posted by the PM on his official twitter account.
However there was no representation of stars from the south film industry and to address the issue Upasana Konidela, Tollywood actor Ram Charan’s wife and Megastar Chiranjeevi’s daughter-in-law had taken to twitter and instagram to express her feelings.
She wrote “Dearest @narendramodiji. We in the South of INDIA admire you & are Proud to have you as our Prime Minister. With all due respect we felt that the representation of Leading personalities & cultural icons was limited only to Hindi Artists and the South Film Industry was neglected. I express my feelings with pain & hope it’s taken in the right spirit. Jai Hind.”
Apart from Upasana, acclaimed South Indian actress turned politician Khushbu Sundar had also expressed her displeasure by writing a couple of tweets, where in one tweet she says “With all due respects to all those who met our H’ble PM @narendramodi ji last eve on behalf of Indian cinema, would like to remind @PMOIndia that Hindi films alone do not represent or contribute to the economy of this country. South Indian cinema is the largest contributor.
