Indian Journalist Ravish Kumar Wins Ramon Magsaysay Award 2019 Indian Journalist Ravish Kumar Wins Ramon Magsaysay Award 2019

Ravish Kumar’s name is in the list of the five winners of the 2019 Magsaysay award, which is touted as the Asian version of the Nobel Prize. Ramon Magsaysay Foundation recognises the "greatness of spirit and transformative leadership in Asia".

The four other recipients are, Angkhana Neelapaijit from Thailand, Raymundo Pujante Cayabyab from Philippines, Ko Swe Win from Myanmar and Kim Jong-Ki from South Korea.

The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation on awarding Ravish Kumar the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay said that NDTV's Ravish Kumar's news programme, Prime Time, "deals with real-life, under-reported problems of ordinary people."

The citation by the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation says, "In electing Ravish Kumar to receive the 2019 Ramon Magsaysay Award, the board of trustees recognizes his unfaltering commitment to a professional, ethical journalism of the highest standards; his moral courage in standing up for truth, integrity, and independence; and his principled belief that it is in giving full and respectful voice to the voiceless, in speaking truth bravely yet soberly to power, that journalism fulfils its noblest aims to advance democracy."

This milestone will definitely boost an interest in Indian Journalism.
