Aishwarya Pissay, who is a Bengaluru-based biker has created history by winning world title in motorsports. The motorsports extravaganza titled FIM World Cup was held in Varpalota, Hungary. Aishwarya, who is an avid biker and is not a new face in women biking scenario, lifted the trophy in women’s category after the final rounds.
The event had been conducted by the International Motorcycling Federation, which is the apex governing body of motorcycle racing in world.
Aishwarya had a dream run in the racing event as she managed to win the first round in Dubai; she secured the third place in Portugal; was fifth in Spain and managed to secure fourth place in Hungary. This took her points tally to 65 points; making her four points ahead of Rita Vieira of Portugal, in the final points tally.
After her win, an elated Aishwarya said, “It’s overwhelming. After what happened last year when I crashed in Spain…to come out and win the championship, it’s a great feeling.”
She further added, “When I suffered career-threatening injuries, it was a tough phase of my life. But I believed in myself and was determined to get back on the bike, which I did in nearly six months. So, winning the World Cup is huge for me. It’s an absolute honour to be the first athlete to bring home a world championship title and put India on the map of international motorsports.”
