SS Rajamouli had never anticipated what the Baahubali franchise was destined to do, opening a new kind of appeal and reception for period drama movies. In the latest offering to the Tollywood industry, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, Chiranjeevi’s 151 film has been yet another example of a period drama that has taken audiences by a storm and has been mass appeal and a wide audience reception not only limited to the southern Indian states but world over.
Unlike films that have been done in the past like the Legend of Bhagat Singh, Mangal Pandey, Bose, Jodha Akbar and many more, period dramas based on strong characters were portrayed in a more conventional cinematic approach whose image was shattered by SS Rajamouli with the Baahubali franchise.
With the various ingredients like timely choreographed stunt coordination, perfectly rendered visual effects, strong punchy dialogues, lavishly crafted sets and elaborate dance sequences set the tone for a different approach to period dramas being made.
If there is any question, then it is that, will SS Rajamouli be able to craft yet another blockbuster to beat the hype and reception that Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is making and create a niche for himself in the Telugu film industry as the director breaking boundaries with the films he makes. Also what is the future going to hold for the director and the cast of RRR? Will Rajamouli be able to deliver yet another hit movie?
